How the Etsy Offsite Ads Threshold Works

Etsy promotes listings on Google, Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and Bing. When a buyer clicks one of these ads and purchases within 30 days, Etsy charges the seller an Offsite Ads fee.

The fee is 15% for sellers under $10,000 in annual sales, and 12% for sellers over that threshold. Above $10K the fee becomes mandatory. You cannot turn it off.

The 30-Day Attribution Window

If a buyer clicked an offsite ad at any point in the 30 days before a purchase, the fee applies. It does not matter if they came back to your shop directly. It does not matter if the click was accidental. It does not matter if they used a different device.

A buyer who tapped a Google Shopping result on their phone and then returned to buy on their laptop a week later still triggers the fee. One ad click resets the 30-day window for that buyer.

There is no appeal process. Etsy treats the ad as having assisted the sale. For shops with regular repeat customers, this makes the offsite ads fee harder to predict than the flat percentage suggests.

What the $10K Threshold Means for Your Shop

The threshold is based on your total Etsy sales in the past 365 days, not the calendar year. Once you cross it, Etsy automatically enrolls you. The 12% fee then applies to any sale attributed to Offsite Ads.

Many sellers cross the threshold without running the numbers on how it changes their margins. Use the calculator above to see the impact before you get there.

How Offsite Ads Fees Are Calculated

The fee applies to the total order value Etsy receives. That is the item price plus any shipping you charge the buyer.

On a $40 sale with $5 shipping, the fee base is $45. At 15%, that is $6.75. At 12%, it is $5.40. Combined with listing, transaction, and processing fees, total fees on an attributed sale can exceed 25% of order value.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Etsy Offsite Ads threshold?

Etsy automatically enrolls sellers once their total Etsy sales exceed $10,000 in the past 365 days. Below $10K, participation is optional. Above $10K, the 12% fee is mandatory and cannot be turned off.

What percentage does Etsy charge for Offsite Ads?

Sellers under $10,000 pay 15% on sales attributed to Offsite Ads. Sellers over the threshold pay 12%. The lower rate sounds better, but it becomes mandatory.

How does Offsite Ads affect my profit per order?

The fee applies to the total order value including shipping charged. On a $35 sale, a 15% fee adds $5.25 to your fees. That comes directly off your profit.

Can I opt out of Etsy Offsite Ads?

Sellers under $10,000 in annual Etsy sales can opt out in their shop settings. Sellers over $10,000 cannot opt out. Enrollment is mandatory at the 12% rate.

How long is Etsy's Offsite Ads attribution window?

30 days. If a buyer clicked an offsite ad at any point in the 30 days before a purchase, the fee applies. This includes accidental clicks and clicks on a different device. One click resets the 30-day window. There is no appeal process.
